Frequently Asked Question

How is a Cigent Bare Metal encryption different than Microsoft Bit Locker?
Last Updated 8 months ago

Software based encryption, such as Microsoft Bit Locker, is cumbersome to use and can be easily bypassed if your system is compromised or your keys are stolen. D3E sets and stores the default master password in ssd firmware instead of software. By locking sensitive data in the firmware of the local ssd using AES 256 encryption, sensitive files are far more difficult to bypass, and provide added protection against ransomware, malware, hacker exploits, and lost / stolen devices.
Bare Metal SSDs are "threat aware" and designed to work in conjunction with our Dynamic Data Defense solution, providing dynamic locking and unlocking of your protected files when your system is under duress.
